The Healthcare Packaging Consortium was founded on June 1, 2010, at Christian Brothers University by seven founding members. A consortium year is from June 1 to May 31 of the following year. Benefits for members include working together with other consortium members and CBU in various areas related to packaging via student projects and two free one-day seminars per year. Regular membership is by invitation only. Our vision is to be a unique world-class healthcare packaging consortium with member companies from various segments of the packaging industry. The mission of the consortium is to advance the knowledge related to healthcare packaging through education and research. The Packaging Program also houses a Packaging Lab, which is certified by the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) and is well-equipped to provide many opportunities for CBU students to pursue real world training to become ISTA certified packaging laboratory professionals. At the graduate level, the Packaging Program offers a Master of Science in Engineering Management with a Packaging Concentration. Undergraduate programs offered in the Packaging Program includes a Packaging minor and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management with a Packaging Concentration. Packaging engineers are employed in such areas as package engineering, development, sales, purchasing, structure design, production, research, and marketing. Total employment in the packaging industry is estimated at over a million. It involves such diverse disciplines as chemistry, physics, materials science, mechanics, machine design, industrial engineering, electronics, materials handling, and other specialized skills. Packaging engineering includes the study of products, packages, materials, containers, structures, methods, machinery, and transportation. ![]() Packaging is an interdisciplinary field in which scientific and engineering principles are applied to develop and produce packages that contain, protect and preserve, transport, inform, and sell a product.
